I’ve just returned from a week long trip to Romania. My brother and his wife got married there. Now that I’m back we should have some more development on the classifieds soon.

On the first day in Romania I walked into a pet store, and the first thing I saw was a degu. They were priced identically to the rabbits, about 60 lei, or about $20 USD. Or maybe it was 20 lei, which would have been a little less than $7, I can’t recall, and I didn’t think to take a picture. Romania has a climate very similar to our own, and apparently have no problems with escaped degus forming self perpetuating colonies.

They’ve got some interesting stone pit fruits over there. They have a lot of wild growing prune plums with fruits the size of our seedless grapes, as well as more familiar european plums. They’ve got regular cling stone and freestone peaches, but also a tiny peach with white flesh, green and white fuzzy skin, and in the samples I tasted a freestone pit.

Quite a few hours were spent touring the ancient Roman fortifications. Picturing the whole thing being done by hand so long ago is difficult. Unfortunately I didn’t make it through any of the castles.
